Terrorism & Public Health Emergencies
PFA is a set of 8 core action steps that operate on the assumption of human resilience and a recognition that strong reactions to potentially traumatic events are common and normal.
PFA is an evidence informed, modular approach to assisting individuals to reduce distress after a potentially traumatic event.
Basic objectives:
Establish a human connection in a non-intrusive, compassionate manner.
Enhance immediate and ongoing safety, and provide physical and emotional comfort.
Calm and orient emotionally overwhelmed or distraught survivors.
Help survivors to tell you specifically what their immediate needs and concerns are and, gather information as appropriate.
Connect survivors to social support networks.
Provide information to help survivors cope with the psychological impact of disasters.
Link the survivor to another member of a disaster response team or to local recovery systems, mental health services, public-sector services and, organization.
The PFA training is Massachusetts E-911 approved 8-hour training.
Trainees will be provided with a certification upon completion.
